The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Ghana, has announced that it is merging its numbers with that of the National Identification Authority (NIA). The NIA numbers have been given to holders of the National Identity Cards popularly known as Ghana Cards.
SSNIT has indicated that the rollout will begin on Monday, 28th June 2021. The Social Security and National Insurance Trust has also indicated that they are expecting all subscribers or clients to merge their numbers by the end of December 2021. After December 2021, any subscriber who does not merge their numbers will not be able to access their services. It is therefore eminent for all subscribers or contributors to merge their SSNIT and NIA numbers by the end of December 2021.
To make it easy for all contributors to merge their numbers, SSNIT has provided two channels or methods that could be used. They have provided that service on their website for those who have access to the internet with their computer or smartphone to be able to do that, and then an opportunity for those who could not have access to the internet to use Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to be able to merge their numbers.
That means contributors have two options or methods to choose from in merging their numbers. This will go a long way to serve contributors both in urban and rural areas of the country. Whether one has access to the internet or not is not an issue; all contributors have the opportunity to use any of the channels to merge their numbers comfortably.
However, SSNIT has indicated that contributors who have challenges merging their numbers should visit any of their offices nearest to them for assistance.
However, SSNIT has announced that they have already automatically merged SSNIT and NIA numbers of members who provided their SSNIT numbers during NIA registration.
