The Volta Region branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) begins its 6th Quadrennial (53rd) Regional Delegates Conference from Monday August 9 to Wednesday August 11.

The conference will be held at the Volta Regional GNAT Hall, Ho under the theme “GNAT @ 90: Surviving as a Reliable and Vibrant Teacher Union in the 21st Century; Addressing Challenges facing the Ghanaian Teacher.”

The conference will review activities of the union over the last four years and also elect a new crop of leaders to steer affairs for the next four years. Eyes will be on the Regional Chairmanship contest between the incumbent Chairman, Mr David Kattah and Mr Bruce Senam McBrian, the first GNAT Volta Regional Youth Coordinator.

Mr Bruce Senam McBrian hopes to lead the Volta regional branch for it “to be the most preferred teachers’ union in the Volta Region whose members are well-informed, committed and motivated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 & 5”. His vision hinges on a 10-point Teacher Agenda namely: Communication, Accountability, Leadership, Professionalism and Grassroots. The rest are Homes, Wellbeing, Transformation, Innovation and Ubuntu (You).”

Mr McBrian is a Professional Teacher and Public Relations Practitioner who works currently as the Public Relations Officer of the Ho Municipal Directorate of GES. He serves on the National Socio-Economic, Gender and Political Committee of GNAT. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work (from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology), a Master of Arts degree in Social Policy (from the University of Ghana), and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies (from the University of Cape Coast).

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is the oldest and largest teacher union in Ghana with a total membership in excess of two hundred thousand teachers, with about 24,000 members in the Volta Region.
