Assemblies of God: Rev. Peter F. K. Eshun Retires After 25 Years of Service

News

Valedictory service has been held in honour of one of the stalwart servants, Rev. Peter F. K. Eshun, and wife, Mrs. Mrs. Elizabeth Eshun at Beautiful Gate Temple AG, Tarkwa in the Mid-Western region. Rev. Eshun until his retirement was the Head Pastor of Beautiful Gate Temple AG, Tarkwa in the Tarkwa District. He served the organization for 25 years and held several positions during his ministry. Below is the profile of Rev. Eshun.

BIRTH AND EDUCATION

Rev. P. F. K. Eshun was born on the 6th of October, 1953 at Kejibil in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region of Ghana. He was providentially Born Again on the 6th of October, 1990. Between 1968 and 1975, Rev. P. F. K. Eshun was in St. Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Amisano, Elmina for his secondary school education that would have led him into the Roman Catholic priesthood. However, after his 6th form in 1975, instead of proceeding to the Major Seminary at Pedu in Cape Coast to start the priesthood training proper, Rev. P. F. K. Eshun chose to abandon becoming a priest to continue his education at the University of Cape of Coast where he graduated in 1979 with a BA (Hons) Dip. Education.

TEACHING CAREER

In September 1979, shortly after graduation, he was posted to Asankrangwa Secondary School for his mandatory National Service marking the start of what would be his fifteen years of teaching. Other schools Rev. P. F. K. Eshun taught at include:
St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast (1980)
Osi Community High School, Ondo State, Nigeria (1981–1984)
Nsein Secondary School, Axim (1984–1986)
Solomon Mallangu Freedom College, Mazimbu, Tanzania (1986–1988)
Fiaseman Secondary School, Tarkwa (1988–1994)

CONVERSION

As earlier indicated, Rev. P. F. K. Eshun was a Roman Catholic by birth and training. However, in the University, he was converted to the Marxist-Leninist Philosophy becoming a defacto atheist. In 1983 whilst Nigeria a colleague teacher also introduced him to the Theological Science Society (the Lodge of Mystics) which taught that “you are your god no matter who says otherwise”. In other words, a man could become whom he wanted to become through his power of concentration. This explains Reverend’s deep obsession with Kwame Nkrumah and the unremitting pursuit of his ideals. It was in this state of lostness that the Lord God extended His arm of mercy towards him and freed him on the 6th of October 1990.

CALL TO MINISTRY

Shortly after Rev. P. F. K. Eshun’s salvation, the Lord through diverse ways started calling him into ministry. Though he was never opposed to the Lord’s call he was opposed to the idea of going to train at the then Southern Ghana Bible Institute (SGBI) for personal reasons. This led him to “enter into a covenant with” the Lord that He should send him to any Theological Seminary outside the African Continent, and he would be willing to serve Him wherever He sent him to work for Him. But the Lord did respond in ways that led him with absolutely no other choice than to accept to go to Saltpond.

One afternoon in his sitting room Rev. P. F. K. Eshun heard a knock on his door. When he opened the door it was Rev. Bob Eshun, then a Bible School student. In his hand was a white envelope sent to Rev. P. F. K. Eshun by Rev. Anane-Asare, a former Bible School lecturer Rev. P. F. K. Eshun had known only for two weeks when he went for his Lay workers course. In that envelope was a Bible School application form. Before this, Rev. P. F. K. Eshun had never discussed any intention of going to the Bible School nor asked for an application form from Rev. Anane-Asare or from anyone else for that matter. The last straw was that when the date for the entrance exam was communicated to him, Rev. P. F. K. Eshun realized to his utter surprise that it was on the exact date he had in an earlier dream seen himself writing an exam.

Submit to God’s will, which he did, and in March 1994 left for the then Southern Ghana Bible Institute (SGBI) for his two-year Diploma in Bible Studies course. Going to the Bible School to study, according to the Rev. P. F. K. Eshun was the most challenging and yet the best thing that ever happened to him after his eventful salvation.

MINISTRY

After Rev. P. F. K. Eshun’s Bible School training in November 1995, Rev. Koomson, his Senior Minister, sent him to pastor a new work at Bankyim. Beautiful Gate Temple Assembly of God is where the Lord has faithfully kept His servant till this day. The unique thing about Rev. P. F. K. Eshun is that he never regarded this church as his own and made sure that he never referred to it as such and made sure nobody else did. By the grace of God, the church was able to establish branches at Teberebie, Mile 8, and Jerusalem. This is the pilgrim pastor the Lord endowed this church with and whom Assemblies of God, Ghana, is today retiring from its ranks. But we are of the unmistakable opinion that the Lord of the harvest still has a place for him in His vineyard.

FAMILY LIFE

Whilst in the University, in 1977, he got married to his long-time classmate and friend, Miss Elizabeth McCarthy with whom he is blessed with four children: Indira, Olga, Golda, and Emmanuel.
